Oil: The Lifeblood of the Car's Engine
If you have a gasoline-powered vehicle, you'll have to schedule routine oil changes throughout the lifetime of your car. The engine's oil has three main jobs: cooling, lubrication, and cleaning. As the oil is pushed through the engine's interior, it picks up any debris it can and catches it in its filter. It also cools the engine's parts down along the way and lubricates each moving part for easy movement.
Over time, the oil will begin to break down. When this occurs, the oil will either turn sludgy or too thin, depending on your vehicle and the type of engine and oil you have. This bad oil won't accomplish its tasks, leading to a much more extensive engine issue.
What Happens During an Oil Change?
During an oil change, the technician will drain the old oil and remove the filter. After a quick inspection, they replace the filter and put new oil in.
When Should I Change My Engine's Oil?
Most new vehicles will inform you when the oil needs to be changed. However, if it's been longer than 7,500 to 10,000 miles, you'll want to inspect the oil to see if it requires an oil change earlier.
